Mr. Kimbrough is one of the county's most experienced music teachers. He shared tips and tricks about ensemble playing as well as fascinating stories about the dangers of the industry.
The percussion students enjoyed a performance/clinic from local Percussionist Justin McChoncie.
Justin McConchie is a percussionist and educator based in Greensboro, NC. He currently is on the percussion and drum set faculty at The Music Academy of North Carolina. Justin received the Bachelor of Music degree from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in Richmond, VA where he studied with Dr. Peter Martin, and the Master of Music degree in Percussion Performance from the University of Texas at Austin, studying under Dr. Thomas Burritt and Tony Edwards.
While in Austin, Justin served as Percussion Instructor at David Crockett High School, where he directed all aspects of the percussion program including the drumline, front ensemble, and Percussion Ensemble. He also taught private lessons at W. Charles Akins High School, and presented clinics at schools across central Texas.
As a performer, Justin has been a featured soloist with both the VCU Percussion Ensemble and the VCU Symphony Orchestra, and has also performed as a freelance musician in the Richmond and Austin areas. He has performed with the Chamber Orchestra of San Antonio and plays vibraphone in the percussion duo Blue Jay. Justin is a member of the Percussive Arts Society. The John Salmon Trio is a jazz group consisting of John Salmon (piano), Steve
Haines (bass), and Thomas Taylor (drums), all of whom are faculty members
at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro School of Music. The group
has thrilled audiences in the US and abroad. Its most extensive and exotic
tour was in China, April-May 2007, with 10 concerts in 7 cities. They also
toured Moldova and Ukraine (2003) and have given concerts throughout the
southeastern United States. John Salmon is a renowned classical and jazz
pianist, who has performed on four continents and whose recordings are
broadcast regularly throughout the US and in 15 countries. The John Salmon
Trio performs a wide variety of jazz standards, from Cole Porter’s “Just One of
Those Things” to originals such as Salmon’s Latin number, “Mambo Madness.”

The Ragsdale Band, Ragsdale Chorus, Page Band, Jamestown Middle Chorus, Millis Elementary Chorus, and Union Hill Elementary performed on Friday honoring those lost on 9/11.
